Use DuplicatorPlus to Copy a SCSI Drive

Solid State Disks Ltd

Dependable Data Storage Solutions

The DuplicatorPlus can be used to copy a SCSI drive. It can be used to copy just the data or a full image of most SCSI-1 and -2 interfaced drives – such as hard disk drives (HDDs) and digital versatile disk (DVD) drives – on to a Compact Flash (CF) card, which itself can copied or duplicated.

Note, our DuplicatorPlus replaces our previously available standalone Clone and Duplicator stations, for which support is still available.

Clone, Duplicate & Backup

The DuplicatorPlus enables you to create a cloned image of the data stored on a SCSI-based drive on a CF card for backup purpose. It can also be used to duplicate that image, either to a second card or to the cloud or a networked computer.

Whereas ‘copying’ a hard disk’s contents refers to copying individual files and folders, ‘cloning’ is a byte-by-byte transfer of the entire image, including hidden folders.

Our Windows-based Flash2GUI memory management software can be used to:

  1. Clone a legacy SCSI drive in its entirety onto a CF card – i.e. the complete image is cloned.
  2. Clone just that part of the legacy drive which is formatted. For example, the host computer may have only formatted half of the legacy drive for use, in which case a lower capacity CF card can be used.
  3. Copy the data from one CF card to another – i.e. hidden files will not be copied.
  4. Copy the image of one CF card onto another, i.e. you can make a clone of a clone if you wish.

Flash2GUI can also be used to replicate the functionality of the push button on the front of DuplicatorPlus to perform function 1, 2 or 4 above.

The DuplicatorPlus has a data transfer rate of more than 6Gb/min and is supplied with:

  • A 32GB industrial-grade CF card. Note, larger capacity cards are available on request as the target needs to be at least as large as the legacy SCSI drive.
  • 2m 5 and 12V cables to power the drive being cloned.
  • 2m 68-pin male-to-male ribbon cable.
  • 1m USB cable to connect to a PC or laptop
  • 5m 68-pin ribbon cable.
  • 50- and 68-pin to 80-pin adapter
  • 68- to 50-pin adaptor

The benefits of DuplicatorPlus include:

  • Ease of use.
  • Compact and portable.
  • Minimal system downtime to clone or copy.

It is not always necessary to remove the legacy drive from its host in order to make a copy or clone.

SCSIFlash

Now that a clone of your legacy drive exists on a CF card you may wish to use one of our SCSIFlash drives – as form-fit-function replacement for your original SCSI drive.

With its moving (and wearing) parts, your legacy electromechanical, and long obsolete, SCSI drive will eventually fail.

Available in many form factors, our SCSIFlash drives use CF cards as the storage media.

Now that you have a clone of your SCSI drive it can used be used in one of SCSIFlash drives, which can be used to replace your old drive.

No modifications need to be made to your host system. It will simply think it is addressing your original drive.
