Legacy Tapes & Drives

Solid State Disks Ltd

Dependable Data Storage Solutions

Our CF2SCSI™ SCSIFlash™ emulators are swap-in replacements for legacy OEM storage devices. This means you can benefit from the performance and reliability of modern solid-state technology without having to modify your host software or maintenance routines.

Moreover, our drives can bring new capabilities to your systems including:

  • Touchless Removable® – virtually change removable media (tape, optical, floppy).
  • Monitor – check processor, voltage, temperature, capacity and memory wear levels.
  • Hot Backup – make a copy of the drive while the host is running.
  • RAID 1 – add redundancy and resilience to hard drives.
  • File Edit – change host files used to hold recipes, formulae and parameters.

Where to next?

What is CF2SCSI™ SCSIFlash™?

Our drive solves the growing and increasingly expensive problem of repairing or replacing ageing and failing SCSI-based 2.5-inch, 3.5-inch and 5.25-inch hard disk drives, magneto optical drives, quarter-inch tape drives and floppy disk drives on computer-based legacy equipment used in telecoms and other industries.

Combining proven SCSI drive architectures (SASI, SCSI-1, SCSI-2) with industry-standard, solid state Compact Flash (CF) card technology our CF to SCSI (CF2SCSI™) SCSIFlash™ is a solid-state drop-in replacement for any style of SCSI-based drive. Moreover, we can accommodate a variety of connector/interface types including, but not limited to, Pertec, QIC DAT, DLT 3490, Jazz, ZIP and Bernoulli.

Our drives are completely programmable, enabling the SCSI driver implementation nuances of the original equipment manufacturers to be fully emulated. This means you won’t have to make any changes to your system. Our drives are truly swap-in replacements.

Magnetic Tapes

Our SCSIFlash-Tape® can emulate a variety of SCSI tape drives including the popular DDS DAT, DLT and Pertec and on many host systems including DEC VAX, MicroVAX, HP, IBM and Honeywell.

We support tape specific commands such as Backup, Rewind and Copy. Form factors supported are 5.25-inch, desktop enclosure and 3.5-inch.

Touchless Removable® with the ethernet direct optional port is available on all emulations.

Form factors supported are 5.25-inch, desktop enclosure and 3.5-inch.

Popular magneto optical (MO) drives with SCSI bus interfaces that can be emulated include those from ZIP, JAZ, DEC, Fujitsu, Hitachi, HP, IOMEGA, Konica, Maxoptix, Olympus, Pioneer, Ricoh, SONY, SYQUEST and TEAC.

CF cards can be used like cartridge MO media with many capacity and disk sector sizes supported.

A wide variety of hosts are supported including HP, VMS, OS/400, VxWorks, OS2, Solaris and Unix systems.

Floppy Disk Drives

We can emulate floppy disk drives with 26-pin, 34-pin IDC IBM or Shugart edge connector interfaces and 50-pin SCSI connector interfaces

Our solid-state FLOPPYFlash™ is an industrial grade, programmable hardware emulator that uses standard industrial Compact Flash (CF) card technology. It can be used as a drop-in replacement for 3.5”, 5.25” or 8” drives (e.g Shugart SA801 / SA800-1), both soft and hard sectored, and can be set to operate at various data rates with the matching data encoding schemes, FM, MFM, or MMFM. Data connection is typically via a 34-pin standard floppy edge connector.

In addition, we have a SCSIFlash™ SCSI1/SCSI2 50-pin floppy drive emulator too. It allows CF cards of up to 128GB (host dependant) to be attached to a regular SCSI bus. It will be seen as a SCSI floppy drive by the host computer. It can emulate many SASI, SCSI-1, or SCSI-2 drives and can be programmed to suit the host systems requirement. Emulated Disk Sector sizes can be 256, 512,

768, 1024, 2048, 4096 bytes.
