Legacy Tapes & Drives
Solid State Disks Ltd
Dependable Data Storage Solutions
Our SCSIFlash™ SCSIFlash-Tape® and FLOPPYFlash™ drives are swap-in replacements for legacy OEM storage devices. This means you can not only keep host systems operating, when the original drives start to fail, but you can also benefit from the performance and reliability of modern solid-state technology. Moreover, you won’t need to modify the host system’s software or your maintenance routines.
You can also benefit from new capabilities including:
- Touchless Removable® – virtually change removable media (tape, optical, floppy).
- Monitor – check processor, voltage, temperature, capacity and memory wear levels.
- Hot Backup – make a copy of the drive while the host is running.
- RAID 1 – add redundancy and resilience to hard drives.
- File Edit – change host files.

Magnetic Tapes
Our SCSIFlash-Tape® can emulate a variety of SCSI tape drives including the popular DDS DAT, DLT and Pertec and on many host systems including DEC VAX, MicroVAX, HP, IBM and Honeywell.
We support tape specific commands such as Backup, Rewind and Copy. Form factors supported are 5.25-inch, desktop enclosure and 3.5-inch.
Touchless Removable® with the ethernet direct optional port is available on all emulations.
Optical
Our SCSIFlash™ drive can be used to replace many popular magneto optical (MO) drives including those from ZIP, JAZ, DEC, Fujitsu, Hitachi, HP, IOMEGA, Konica, Maxoptix, Olympus, Pioneer, Ricoh, SONY, SYQUEST and TEAC.
CF cards can be used like cartridge MO media with many capacity and disk sector sizes supported.
A wide variety of host systems are supported including those made by HP, VMS, OS/400, VxWorks, OS2, Solaris and Unix systems.
Floppy
Our FLOPPYFlash™ and SCSIFlash™ drives are available as a swap-in replacement for floppy drives with SCSI, 34-pin IDC IBM or Shugart edge connector interfaces.
Our solid-state FLOPPYFlash™ is an industrial grade, programmable hardware drive that uses standard industrial Compact Flash (CF) card technology. It can be used as a drop-in replacement for 3.5-, 5.25- and 8-inch drives (e.g., Shugart SA801 / SA800-1), both soft and hard sectored, and can be set to operate at various data rates with the matching data encoding schemes; FM, MFM, or MMFM. Data connection is typically via a 34-pin standard floppy edge connector.
In addition, our50-pin SCSIFlash™ drive can also be used as to replace failing floppy drives. It too uses CF cards ( up to 128GB capacity, host dependant). It will be seen as a SCSI floppy drive by the host computer. Disk sector size can be set to 256, 512, 768, 1024, 2048 or 4096 bytes.
Hard Disks
We have solutions for SASI, SCSI1, SCSI2, Ultra3 and PATA/IDE hard disk drives (HDDs) including 50-pin IDC header (male/female), Centronics, 68-pin, 80-pin connectors (StorageWorks),40-pin IDE/ PATA and ESDI drives.
Our drop-in replacements for SCSI HDDs are:
A dual SSD card slot drive is available upon request, please contact us for details.
Our drop-in replacement for PATA/IDE drives is:
Our drives can be used to replace all standard HDDs from Seagate, Western Digital, Hitachi, HP and DEC.
Our drop-in replacement for ESDI drives is:
What is SCSIFlash™?
Our drive solves the growing and increasingly expensive problem of repairing or replacing ageing and failing SCSI-based 2.5-inch, 3.5-inch and 5.25-inch hard disk drives, magneto optical drives, quarter-inch tape drives and floppy disk drives on computer-based legacy equipment used in telecoms and other industries.
Combining proven SCSI drive architectures with industry-standard, solid-state Flash-based memory technology, our drives are drop-in replacement for any style of SCSI-based drive.
We have two families of products:
- SCSIFlash™. The storage media used is Compact Flash (CF), up to 128GB capacity, and the SCSI interface (SASI, SCSI-1 and SCSI-2 architectures) is standard (narrow) 8-bit with data transfer rates of up to 10MB/s.
- SCSIFlash-Fast™. The storage media used is either CFast or M.2 SSD, up to 1TB capacity, and the data transfer rate is up to 80MB/s. SASI, SCSI-1, SCSI-2 and Ultra3 are supported, and the interface is automatically detected as being standard/narrow (8-bit SCSI, wide (16-bit) SCSI, single-ended (SE) or low voltage different (LVD) signalling.
Our drives are completely programmable, enabling the SCSI driver implementation nuances of the original equipment to be fully emulated. This means you won’t have to make any changes to your system. Our drives are truly swap-in replacements.
