Applied Materials (AMAT) Endura / P5200 / P5500

Solid State Disks Ltd

Dependable Data Storage Solutions

If you have an Applied Materials (AMAT) Endura, P5200 or P5500 physical vapour deposition (PVD) system and its data storage device is starting to fail, we can help.

Our CF2SCSI™ SCSIFlash™ drives are being using extensively within the semiconductor fabrication industry to replace legacy drives with either internal storage media (such as magnetic HDDs and SSDs) and/or which use removable media, such as magnetic tapes, optical disks (CD / DVD), floppy disks and solid-state memory cards.

The photos at the top of this page show the front and rear of our CF2SCSI™ SCSIFlash™ drive configured as a replacement for the Applied Materials (AMAT) HDD part number 0190-04852.

Our drive will emulate the behaviour of your legacy drive. This means your host system requires no changes and it will treat our drive as if it were the original part. In addition, you benefit from the high reliability, improved performance (such as fast and simplified memory erase for security) and reduced noise and power consumption that all come through switching to latest technology solid-state memory.

Recent emulations we’ve supplied include:

  • Seagate ST34520N 4.5GB Disk using BOSS O/S (replacing mechanical U0 hard drive).
  • Teac FC-1 & FC-5 1.44MB Floppy using BOSS OS (supporting ‘Format U2’, ‘Copy U2’ and ‘Copy U0’ commands).

Both required BOSS E4.8 EPROM to be installed on the single board computer.

As mentioned, our CF2SCSI™ SCSIFlash™ drive can also be used to replace legacy drives that have removable media. Pictured below are our Ethernet-enabled replacements for AMAT part number 0660-01083 (an IDE floppy drive with IDC connector – middle photo) and AMAT part number 0660-01088 (a 50-pin SCSI floppy drive – pictured on the right). The front panels of the drives are identical.

In addition, all our CF2SCSI™ SCSIFlash™ drives can be fitted with Ethernet ports (as per the above photo on the left) enabling them to be networked and used with our Windows (7 or higher) Flash2GUI software to access a variety of memory management tools.

Our drives have been tested and approved for full reset, CPU-only cold reset, full system reload, log & recipes transfer. Also, multiple configurations are possible – for example, user mode (recipes only) and admin mode (system files).

We have also prepared an installation guide that explains how replace the legacy drives with AMAT’s P5000, Endura and Centura systems.  View here AMAT SCSIFLASH Retrofit Installation Instructions SSHD and SSFD

Where to next?

What is SCSIFlash™?

Our drive solves the growing and increasingly expensive problem of repairing or replacing ageing and failing SCSI-based 2.5-inch, 3.5-inch and 5.25-inch hard disk drives, magneto optical drives, quarter-inch tape drives and floppy disk drives on computer-based legacy equipment used in telecoms and other industries.

Combining proven SCSI drive architectures with industry-standard, solid-state Flash-based memory technology, our drives are drop-in replacement for any style of SCSI-based drive.

We have two families of products:

  • SCSIFlash™. The storage media used is Compact Flash (CF), up to 128GB capacity, and the SCSI interface (SASI, SCSI-1 and SCSI-2 architectures) is standard (narrow) 8-bit with data transfer rates of up to 10MB/s.
  • SCSIFlash-Fast™. The storage media used is either CFast or M.2 SSD, up to 1TB capacity, and the data transfer rate is up to 80MB/s. SASI, SCSI-1, SCSI-2 and Ultra3 are supported, and the interface is automatically detected as being standard/narrow (8-bit SCSI, wide (16-bit) SCSI, single-ended (SE) or low voltage different (LVD) signalling.

Our drives are completely programmable, enabling the SCSI driver implementation nuances of the original equipment to be fully emulated. This means you won’t have to make any changes to your system. Our drives are truly swap-in replacements.
